Are you looking for information on how to survive a zombie apocalypse? It is coming, and we all know it. We are all just one mutated virus or government science experiment away from the worst pandemic humanity has ever experienced, a zombie outbreak.
The Center for Disease Control, in the United States, has put out zombie information and awareness material since 2011. A zombie is a reanimated corpse with a taste for living flesh. Even more terrifying is they are nearly impossible to stop.
Fortunately for us, Hollywood has been on top of the problem. Since George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, movie makers have been working through the problem and different scenarios. The cause can come from nature, the wrath of god, magic, or our own scientific hubris. Regardless, you will need to know how to survive.
Here are our tips for surviving a zombie apocalypse:
Stockpile Food & Water: When the initial outbreak occurs, you may not be able to leave your home for a while. Emergency food and water is important. One can buy emergency food and water kits with a 25-year shelf life.
Medication: Make sure you have your prescriptions filled, and a standard variety of non-prescription medications on hand. Meds will become hard to find after a zombie outbreak.
Tools & Supplies: You will need basic tools and supplies. Ensure you include duct tape, a multi-use knife, crank powered radio and flashlight, and solar chargers.
First Aid Kit: One must be prepared for injuries. Your first aid kit should include adhesive bandages, cleansing wipes, antibiotic ointment, and more. An organized kit makes it easy to find the items you need.
Bug Out Bag: If things really hit the fan, you may not have time to pack. A bug out bag is prepackaged and easy to grab. If needs to include items for starting a fire and purifying water, basic tools, first aid, emergency batteries and solar chargers, and more.
Emergency Plan: Your family members need to know where to find you if you become separated. Identify two meeting locations, and the route you will take if there is an evacuation.
Fitness: Cardio! Being fit increases your chances of survival. You are going to need to run from and fight zombies. Physical fitness is essential for survival.
Learn to Shoot: Take a course to learn how to shoot a gun. Knowing how to use firearms is necessary to defend against the undead and unfriendly scavengers.
Learn to Hunt: Society has fallen, there are no more grocery stores, and your emergency food will only last so long. Bullets will become valuable. Learning to trap and bow hunt will keep your family fed.
Move North: Zombies are not all that bright and don’t know to get out of the cold. In colder climates, the undead move slowly and will eventually freeze solid in the winter. It may not kill them, but it makes it easy for you to kill them.
