5 Ways to Whiten Your Teeth Naturally

Whiten Teeth Naturally

As far as teeth whitening goes, there is a wide variety of useless products on the market. Most of them contain chemical bleaches and this is quite worrisome. If you want to make your teeth look whiter, but exclude the nasty chemicals at the same time, then you should indeed consider natural teeth whiteners. Here are some natural and harmless methods to whiten your teeth at home.

1.   Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleach capable of disinfecting your mouth thoroughly. A cheap way to whiten teeth is to wash your mouth regularly with three-percent hydrogen peroxide or to create a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and water. You can use the paste to clean your teeth.

If you accidentally swallow it, then drink a glass of water immediately. Scientists came to the discovery that toothpaste with baking soda and one percent of hydrogen peroxide are highly efficient in teeth whitening. However, there might be some issues regarding the safety.

A high concentration of hydrogen peroxide or its excessive usage can cause irritation. There are two ways to utilize hydrogen peroxide for the purpose of teeth whitening. The first one is the combination of water while the second one is the mixture of sodium bicarbonate. Whatever method you decide to use, keep in mind that the concentration of hydrogen peroxide should not exceed 1.5 percent.

2.   Apple cider vinegar

People have been using it since olden times as a way of disinfection and natural cleaning. The main ingredient of apple cider vinegar is acetic acid, and it can destroy bacteria effortlessly. The anti-bacterial feature of vinegar is very useful for the mouth cleaning as well as a natural teeth whitening.

Studies have already proved the power of apple cider vinegar. However, acetic acid can also cause the erosion of tooth enamel and that is why you should avoid using apple cider vinegar every day. When it comes to the usage of vinegar, you should use it in combination with water. Then wash your mouth with the clean water.

3.   Baking soda

It is an incredible natural bleaching agent, and therefore it is a common ingredient in many kinds of toothpaste. This mild abrasive can eliminate the surface stains from teeth. Additionally, sodium bicarbonate has a powerful alkaline influence in the mouth and so it prevents the growth of bacteria.

It will not improve your teeth whiteness overnight, so the results will become visible only after a certain period of time. Several studies have shown that toothpaste containing baking soda has a striking effect on teeth whitening. When it comes to eliminating the stains from the teeth, a toothpaste that contains baking soda is far more efficient than the standard one.

A high level of sodium bicarbonate will provide great efficiency. Brushing teeth with baking soda is very simple. Just mix one teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate with two teaspoons of water to form a paste, and that is it. Use it only several times a week.

4.   Coconut oil

Rinsing a mouth with coconut oil is a traditional Indian method for improving hygiene and releasing toxins from a human body. Coconut oil is highly convenient because of its delicious taste and the fact that it has several health benefits. It has a high level of lauric acid, which is capable of killing bacteria and reducing inflammation.

Streptococcus mutans is a primary type of bacteria in the mouth and it causes stains and gingivitis. Washing your mouth daily for a week with coconut oil undoubtedly reduces the bacteria from saliva. Using coconut oil on a daily basis is harmless and cannot cause any side effects. Many people say that their teeth are whiter thanks to coconut oil. Therefore, there is no reason not to try it if you are looking to achieve results naturally.

5.   Strawberries

Whitening the teeth using the mixture of strawberries and baking soda is a natural method which is particularly popular among some celebrities. Advocates of this approach state that strawberries contain malic acid that can efficiently remove teeth discoloration. However, we are still waiting for the official approval of the method.

Although strawberries can clean the teeth and make them look much whiter, yet they cannot penetrate into the stains. Yet, a recent study has discovered that the mixture of strawberries and sodium bicarbonate leads to the less discoloration of the teeth compared to the commercial products for teeth whitening. If you want to apply this particular method in your home, try to limit the usage to several times a week for safety reasons. Despite the minimal effect, using it too often can cause damages.

Wow this article is very amazing, I really learned a lot from this. I really don’t know that Coconut oil can also be be used to whitening our teeth. I never came across such idea in my entire life. I thought Coconut oil is mainly used for cooking and cosmetic purposes but it has now innovates into a more useful one. Another thing is the strawberry, I thought it was just mainly used for cooking or eating purposes but I am happy to know that it can also helps to whiten our teeth. Lastly is the baking soda, I only… Read more »

@junrose123 I was really stunned by some of the things listed on the article that would get your teeth shining white, things like that baking soda and even hydrogen peroxide. Initially, I just have the belief that hydrogen peroxide is solely for industrial use and treatment of injuries, and baking soda for doing cleaning but reading up here that they both serve as solvents for teeth washing and whiting, I’m really taken-aback. This is really informative.

I find it useful to learn about this stuff. Natural alternatives are popular among people. It allows us to choose something different aside from what’s commercially available. Based on what I read, the safest method appears to be the coconut oil rinse. I’ve tried whitening my teeth using specific toothpastes, but they just don’t work. They’re very misleading. Not only do they fail to whiten my teeth, they also cause irreparable damage. Brushing diligently using whitening toothpaste made my teeth brittle and sensitive. I won’t be trying it again. If ever I were to try some of the listed natural… Read more »

@Steve5 I couldn’t agree more with you on the assertion you made about some of the misleading advertising done about some toothpaste being capable of whiting one’s teeth. This is so not true because I have equally tried some of it as, particularly close up toothpaste.

There wasn’t any sign of improvement on such paste making my teeth more white but rather at times some of my tooth started tingling me. But I do believe that these natural means would yield more positive harmless results.

Going about making one’s teeth whitish making use of natural procedures is the best option that I would recommend for anyone because it’s more safe to the individual teeth and gum health, even the overall conditions of the mouth is improved when natural remedies are employed in making the teeth more white.

I wouldn’t even encourage the use of Hydrogen peroxide, even though it’s seems healthy but all the other natural means of attaining white teeth are very appealing and are healthy enough to my understanding.

@Dictator20 I have actually seen some kids and even adults with yellowish teeth, and sometimes I do wonder why such teeth? Is it hereditary or what such people consume at their young age? I can remember one saying it’s some local herbal drugs he took that changed his teeth to yellowish color. Maybe these natural remedies would help sort this out for him.

I’ve been using baking soda to help my teeth restore its color. Although I am not a smoker, I am a coffee drinker. I brush my teeth with any toothpaste and brush it again with baking soda. I do this baking soda brushing at least 3x a week and only once a day. I am also keen when using this daily because it may cause tooth erosion. This is also my concern for Apple cider vinegar. But I’ve heard about it and the hydrogen peroxide. But I must say, this is the first time I heard about strawberries!

I tried using baking soda to whiten my teeth to! but the only difference is that I tried it with lemon extract. I feel pain when I start brushing it but I still continue it and yes it help my yellowish teeth to whiten a little bit but not totally. I am a hard coffee drinker too, does drinking coffee do something about my yellowish teeth? do I need to stop drinking coffee to whiten my teeth?

I’m not really comfortable with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, I don’t really know why. Probably because I know some of industrial use of these solvents and I don’t feel safe with it.

Although, I have seen some people’s statement that they are using it, maybe and maybe I would eventually try it out sometime and say for sure how it’s going to work with me.

I really like the baking soda idea of whitening the teeth because as we all know baking soda has a lot of uses and I will not be surprised if it can be used also for any purposes such in medical treatment of diseases. Baking soda is one of my favorite that I usually used for cleaning our tiles in my present job. I find it amazing that it can be used for whitening tiles in our office and now for whitening of the teeth, that is pretty amazing. I find this idea as very informative, although I haven’t tried… Read more »

Aside from teeth whitener baking soda can be used to avoid and remove black heads and white heads too. Baking soda can clean up your pores you can put that in your face with lemon or just water and baking soda just make it like a paste then wait for it to dry before rinsing it. It really works for me and every after I do this I always feels like my face is so clean.

Good to know. I’ve tried using baking soda and yes it did help whiten my teeth. Haven’t tried mixing it with hydrogen peroxide though. I was thinking of the coconut juice then realized you were talking about the oil, don’t know yet how rinsing oil feels in my mouth.

So I think I need to change my toothpaste to baking soda since it is more natural and has been already used by our grand parents before. I just find it a little bit annoying since the result of using a baking soda takes a longer time to be noticed. Maybe I am just very excited to see the effects of this baking soda to my teeth. I hope that it would really works for me.

This is a very informative article and for sure we are going to apply this in the future. Currently I and my wife have been using baking soda for over a year now and this article is correct that baking soda really helps whiten out teeth. It also helps eliminate bad breath. But I do have a question, does it also works well on the teeth with braces? What I notice with my wife teeth with braces is the part with braces makes it yellowish in color. I just thought that the metal being used for braces has components that don’t… Read more »
